Across China we are active in both the compliance and voluntary carbon markets, originating a range of projects and trading voluntary carbon credits both onshore and internationally.
With almost 20 years of experience in global compliance emissions markets we are able to leverage our expertise to support our Chinese customers to optimise their carbon offset opportunities. We make sizeable investments in low-carbon projects and provide reliable routes to market for high-quality carbon credits.
We began our Chinese operations in the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone in 2020. We offer customers in North and South Asia, including China, Japan, Korea, India and surrounding regions with solutions to meet both their compliance and voluntary requirements.
This includes solutions for Chinese Emissions Allowances (CEAs), Chinese Certified Emissions Reductions (CCERs), Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Gold Standard (GS).

We have been actively engaged in the development of the Chinese ETS for almost a decade.
Providing a range of products and solutions, both in relation to CEAs and CCERs, we can enable emitters in the China ETS to meet their compliance obligations.
Vitol can also provide forward deal structures with embedded optionality to support emitters in managing the uncertainties faced due to liquidity issues in the China ETS.
We offer end-to-end solutions for customers wishing to mitigate their emissions.
Our service includes third-party carbon footprint assessments to eventual retirement of carbon offsets (CCERs, VCUs to GS VERs etc.) and provision of certificates. We are able to supply carbon offsets at fixed or floating prices over a 3-to-4-year time frame, to help our customers optimise their carbon offset opportunities.

Both Phase I and Phase II (VCS Project ID VCS2864, VCS2866), of this project began in 2020 and are successfully collecting manure from local chicken farms and biomass waste residue, e.g. straw, plant ash and rice husk, from local farmers in Xuancheng City, Anhui Province for conversion to organic fertilizer.
